Course Introduction

Welcome to History 31.

The purpose of this class is to survey the history of Canada from Pre-Contact to the late 1980's.  The course is divided into ten lessons using Janet Lunn and Christopher Moore's Story of Canada as the the textbook.  After each lesson, there will be a quiz on the lesson.

Each lesson will have three levels for you to choose from.  Each level with have a different assignment.  You will choose only one level or one assignment to work on for each lesson.  However, the quiz will be the same for each level.

These levels are to accomodate different learning styles.  You will be able to choose how you would like to learn the material within the chapter.  Level 1 will be a simple recall activity where you will complete a fill in the blank worksheet.  Level 2 will be a note taking activity where you will create two column notes on the chapter.  Level 3 will be a presentation of information learned in the chapter.  Nevertheless, after each chapter you will take a quiz on the chapter.

You may also switch between levels.  For example, for Chapter 1: A Hundred Centuries you may choose to do the worksheet (Level 1).  However, for Chapter 2: Strangers on the Coast you may choose to do the presentation (Level 3).  However, once you start with one level for a chapter, you may not switch (in the past students who start switch, rarely get the work done).

After Chapter 5, there will be a midterm test on Chapters 1 to 5.  After Chapter 10, there will a final test on Chapters 6 - 10.  All quizzes and tests will be taken on a website called ClassMarker.com.  It will immediately score all the multiple choice questions on the tests and quizzes (quizzes are only multiple choice).

In review, there are ten lessons on ten chapters.  You may choose one of three levels for the assignments for those lessons.  After each lesson there will be a quiz.  After Chapter 5, there will be a midterm test and after Chapter 10 there will be a final test.

You may access most of the work from home if you need to miss a day.  However, your midterm test will be on Monday April 20, 2016 and your final test will be on Thursday June 23, 2016.
